Street Luge

The Luge is a cross between a skateboard and more traditional Ice Luge, on which the rider lies down feet first. The board is made from steel, aluminium and/or composite materials and runs on up to eight wheels. To steer the rider moves their bodyweight, either by sitting up and leaning or rotating their body and hanging off the board. There are no brakes on a Luge, instead the rider wears modified shoes and drag their feet on the road. This is a very effective way to stop rapidly. A Street Luge will often out perform a car down fast technical roads. Riders reach speeds in excess of 70mph while only an inch or two from the ground.

Downhill Skateboard (Stand-Up)

Downhill Skateboard riders stand on long skateboards designed for stability and speed, and assume an aerodynamic position to achieve great speeds. Probably the most spectacular of the sports, it offers great spectating especially through corners.

Classic Luge

The Classic Luge, or Buttboard, is the low-tech brother to Street Luge. Still a form of skateboard on which you lie, the Buttboard is shorter, narrower, uses smaller wheels and has to be made from a single piece of plywood. While not as fast or high performance as Street Luge the Classic is great fun, requires a lot of skill and due to very low costs is a great entry point for beginners.

Gravity Bike

There are two classes of Gravity Bike. A Stock Class entry is essentially a BMX bike with the pedals and chain removed and dropped handlebars added. Stretch the frame and add a streamlined Fairing, and you have the ¾ Fairing Class. Performance of this latter class is slightly better than Street Luge with respect to top speed.

Soapbox / Gravity Racer

A "Soapbox" is a home built racer, developed from the fun enjoyed by the young when making simple "go-carts". Soapboxes are strictly controlled and scrutinised to ensure a safe racing environment.

A further advanced class is the Gravity Racer. This is a much more technically advanced and engineered soapbox racer. This is the class for engineers and innovators.

Skateboard Slalom

Slalom Skateboard involves being the fastest to skate through a set course of cones. The cones are set up in a straight line at a set distance (tight slalom) or spread across the width of the road at random intervals (giant slalom). Knocking down cones results in penalties or disqualification.
